ReSound
Design & FabricationCrafted exclusively from found metal scraps chosen for their acoustic properties, this object draws inspiration from the transient installations and chance interactions that create soundscapes at Little Island, NYC, fostering a sense of spontaneity and taking away inhibitions.
Taking an ad hoc approach in materiality and assembly, the focus was on infusing joy into everyday banal activities, such as drinking from a water fountain, by incorporating mechanical elements that naturally produce sound as a byproduct of dispensing water.
Designed for disassembly and without predetermined sound or form, the object was created through a process of physical collage, utilizing the inherent qualities of the found materials to bring joy to the mundane.
Themes of improvisation, iterative design with reclaimed materials, thresholds, transitions, and the core elements of joy and play underscore the project's ethos. It enriches public spaces with unexpected experiences while celebrating the creative potential inherent in repurposed objects.
